Important review of cognitive skills for teaching and learning

This book is a very important addition to our field of cognitive psychology. Moseley et al offer an extensive and careful review of cognitive skill taxonomies. A commendable approach, with accessible descriptions and critique.

The review covers a specific domain in cognitive research: theories on the structure of how knowledge is organized. None of the frameworks in the book entirely solve the problem, but this book is a major step in the right direction. Education needs to improve our ability to organize knowledge, so that we can use knowledge to its full potential.

The book does not include neurocognitive research. The results from fMRI's are showing that the physical traces will not give us the entire picture of how our brain works, at least not with the current methods. Efforts toward theory, as this book promotes, must work in tandem with neurocognitive research. Thank you to Moseley et al!!
